I’ve sat on this post for the past month or so, but the conversation came back up this past weekend. One of the biggest things I’ve learned from watching my parent serve in vocational ministry, my time in ministry, and reading the word for myself is that ITS NOT ABOUT ME! I gave God my yes out of obedience to Him, because He first loves me.

I think it is a challenge for anyone working in vocational ministry or a pastor to think that anyone owes them something for the sacrifice they’ve made. I know, I know we read the old testament on how God directed the children of God to treat and care for the Levitical  priest and put ourselves in that position. The fact of the matter is that most of us are not living to the same standards as what was required of them 👀 AND it was God who gave the directive, not them. The moment they stopped obeying God, they were the first to die in Ezekiel and Isaiah. They had the blood of the people and their sin on their hands.

In our sinful nature, we have found ourselves with hearts full of pride and entitlement that we think we are owed something. No one owes you/me anything, not even a thank you! Your obedience is to God not man. In Luke 14:25-35, tells us as disciples of Christ to count the cost. When we choose to follow Him, we are too willing to give up all our earthly possessions. If you have chosen ministry for any reason outside of your obedience to God, you may want to check your heart. With that being said, God doesn’t owe us anything either as He made the biggest sacrifice with His son Jesus that paid the price for our lives. All the blessings that come with being a child of God are just bonuses.
